Another long run between posts; I'm sorry for that, life gets in the way some times of being able to sit down and just write. I say life, but I suppose I really just mean stuff. And by "gets in the way" yeah that's just an excuse. I've not made the time to sit down and do it, I've made time to watch television, work in the yard, and play with the dog. But this morning I woke up early enough that the boys are still sleeping and I have a song stuck in my head that has me focused on surrender. It's a beautiful song by Jenn Johnson called "A Little Longer".
It's interesting that I found this song this week when we're going through the Forgotten Way by Ted Dekker on Sunday nights and this week's focus has been surrender. What do we have to surrender? Jesus says "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me" -Luke 9:23. We have to surrender our self, our identity, our existence and follow Him. It sounds crazy. It is crazy, if you look at your life as your own. (Gal 2:20). So....what does that look like? How do we surrender ourselves? What do we do? Jesus gave us the answer in several places, He told us that if we don't "hate" our mother, father, etc we cannot follow Him in Luke 14:26, He told a young man to let the dead bury the dead regarding his own father and another that he couldn't even go home and tell his family goodbye (Luke 9:58-60). Jesus is saying to them and, by proxy us that He has to be first in our life. There can be nothing that prevents us from following Him, and if there is then we aren't "fit for the Kingdom of God". The word hate has changed meaning over some time from what Jesus likely used it as transitioning to vitriol and loathing from something simple such as "hold of no regard" which makes the first reference to hating our own family more understandable. We are to follow Christ with no regard to what our peers, family, and friends say or do in response. Following Christ is the only thing that should matter to a believer. What do you have in your life today that is taking the place of Christ? Fear of loss of friends and family? Too focused on your job to focus of Christ? Unwilling to see even your family role as a temporary position in this life and thus follow Christ? Scared of the financial issues that surround everyone these days? Let go of it all today. Let go and let Christ lead you and guide you each and every day.
Be blessed my friends! I'll be back soon with more (eventually...)
